Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund: March for Music Therapy

Happy National Music Therapy Awareness Month from Find Your Voice Music Therapy!  During our first Music Therapy Awareness Month we couldn’t be more pleased to be serving the Kingston community.  We have been very blessed to have the continuous support from individuals, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and facilities within our community and couldn’t thank you enough for your care and support.  We have seen an incredible amount of growth and positive impact through music therapy in our community over the past 9 months but we still have a long way to go.  Since music therapy services are not covered by governmental programs in Canada we can truly use your help whether it is through supporting local or national music therapy programs.

The Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund
The Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund (CMTTF) is a sister organization to the Canadian Association for Music Therapy.  Their job is to raise funds to help people obtain music therapy when resources are not available otherwise.  The Trust Fund has been supporting start up programs, research, instrument acquisition, and scholarships since 1993 and has helped fund more then 400 music therapy programs across Canada.

To celebrate, the Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund and the work that Canadian music therapists have been doing across the country we will host the 2nd Annual March for Music Therapy, coast to coast on Sunday, March 29th, 2015.  We will all be marching up to 5 km and the marches will end with an event to celebrate the community coming together and supporting the Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund and their efforts to provide music therapy services to underserved populations in Canada.

The Music Therapy March in Perth
On Sunday March 29th march to the exciting sounds of a Dixieland band and support music therapy. Music therapists of Lanark Area and colleagues from the Kingston and Ottawa areas invite you to the 2nd annual national March to raise funds and awareness for music therapy.

The event will begin at 1:00pm. at the Crystal Palace.  We will complete a 2.25km route to the sound of a Dixie Land Jazz featuring Mark Bailey and friends. The March will end around 2:00pm and a reception will be held at St. James Anglican Church Hall. At the reception, there will be “potluck” style refreshments, music, and speeches. From 2:00pm – 2:45pm, people will also have the chance to bid on several silent auction items from local artisans and businesses. Participants will also have the chance to participate in a song-writing workshop with James Keelaghan.  This workshop is part of the fundraiser, and music therapists from Lanark Area want to thank Mr. Keelaghan for making this possible. Participants can register for the walk at the cost of $20 and to the workshop at the cost of $30. It is also possible to make donations online, or to sponsor a marcher.
