Music in our Natural World

The earth is based on rhythms. Humans make choices regarding every aspect of their lifestyles on the daily rhythms of lightness and darkness.  Activities change based on the annual rhythms of our seasons- we ski, dress warmer, change our tires, and drive slower in the winter. In the summer, we work to save energy, take more time off work, plan to spend more time outdoors, and do more activities around the water. The appearance of plants like trees and flowers completely transform depending on the seasons- the bright, warm colours of the leaves in the fall, and the stark, empty branches of the winter. Our nutrition and lives depend on the rhythms of agriculture- or the annual “schedule” of what fruit and vegetables are best to harvest depending on the time of the year.  Rhythm is all around us in our natural world whether its looking a the lunar cycle effecting the tide, bird migratory patterns, plants needing light from the sun for growth, or bears hibernating in the winter.  Take a moment today to notice what natural rhythms are occurring around you…
