In today’s fast-paced and complex world, having access to support is essential for maintaining our overall wellness. At Find Your Voice Music Therapy (FYVMT) in Nova Scotia, Ontario and online across Canada, we’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of therapeutic interventions for individuals across diverse backgrounds. Whether it’s supporting those with brain injuries, neurodiversity, mental health challenges, seniors, mothers and babies, or members of the LGBTQIA+ community seeking gender-affirming support, we believe that therapy should be accessible to everyone. In this article, we will share four key pathways we’ve developed to make our therapy services more accessible to those in need.
1. Health Insurance
No matter which therapist you work with on our clinical team, our music therapy, voice therapy, music psychotherapy and counselling services are recognized through many health insurance and employee benefit plans. Please connect with your insurance provider or employer directly about your plan details to find out whether you have coverage for Registered Counselling Therapists and/ or Registered Psychotherapists.
2. Donations and Sponsorships
Our Gift of Therapy program allows individuals, businesses and organizations to sponsor specific programs or make donations to support an individual or a community in need of therapy services. Since 2021, we have received funding for our services and programs from:
- Donations for accessible therapy sessions from members of the public
- Funding partnerships with:
- The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia
- The Canadian Music Therapy Fund
- Community partners such as The Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia
- Volunteer associations with Fairmount Home and Providence Care Hospital
3. Grant Funding
Our team is also busy writing grants to secure funding for some of our community programming, including programs for people living with brain injuries, for the queer community and for seniors living in care facilities. Our current partnerships support:
- the transgender and non-binary community through our Trans-Formative Voices voice therapy sessions and mental health support in partnership with:
- seniors in isolation to connect with healthy aging, as well as support dementia and Alzhiemer’s, in collaboration with:
4. Subsidized Pricing: Inclusivity Discount
We recognize that some individuals who want to access our services may not be eligible for the programs that are funded by grants and sponsorships, and may not have health insurance. We are able to offer an inclusivity discount to our services on a limited number of sessions per therapist. These sessions are available by request, on a first-come-first served basis. To find out more and request our subsidized pricing, connect with Mackenzie (Owner and Founder) or Alexa (Clinical Lead) for a complimentary consultation.
