The Foe: Living with Lewy Body Dementia

The Foe - Mrs P & Mackenzie Costron

Lewy Body Dementia is a disease similar to Alzheimer’s in the sense that it affects memory, attention, complex mental functions and behaviours such as frustration and anxiety.  Lewy Body is characterized by its link to Parkinson’s Disease.  When Mrs. P was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in her late fifties it became very surreal as at the time she was working as a research psychologist at Queens University with Geriatrics, dementia, and Parkinson’s Disease.

Mrs. P wrote a poem called “The Foe” because she wanted people to understand what herself and many other’s with Lewy Body Dementia are going through.  To advocate for the cause, get support from the Kingston community, and enhance research in battling Lewy Body but also other related dementias.

Mackenzie Costron, BMT, MTA, RP, and Mrs. P set her poem to music and recorded the song.
